Engineered wood flooring in Europe is the most popular type of wood flooring today. The engineered flooring has a surface layer which is made of natural timber and once installed looks identical to solid wood.
The Advantages of engineered flooring over solid are many. The construction is designed to give extra stability with different layers which work in conjunction with each other. Which reduce the amount of expansion and contraction when compared to solid flooring. This is especially important as during the change of seasons in the United Kingdom humidity variations can cause wood flooring to expand or contract.
Engineered flooring is easier to fit than its solid counter part and has a price advantage.
Most engineered floors are laid as a floating floor on an underlay. Can be fixed directly to the sub floor by either sticking with recommended adhesives or “secret nailing.” (depending on the construction and thicknesss). 20mm product can be fixed directly to joists to form a structural floor in correct conditions.
Unlike solid flooring some engineered floors can be installed over some under floor heating systems. Subject to manufacturers recommendations of both the flooring and heating system.
All engineered flooring should be acclimatized for at least 48 hours prior to insallation.
